RAIPUR: Two personnel of District Reserve Guards force suffered injuries in an IED blast triggered by Maoists in Abujhmarh forests of Narayanpur district of Bastar division in Chhattisgarh on Thursday.
The jawans were out on a joint anti-Maoist operation along with teams of DRG and Special Task Force on Wednesday. When the troops were in the forests of Gawadi in Abujhmarh in the wee hours around 3 am, Maoists triggered an IED blast.
While there were no severe injuries reported, police said that a jawan and an officer had to be evacuated from the operation for treatment as their eyes were affected due to the blast.
After the preliminary treatment, they were reported to be in normal condition.
Another similar incident occurred in Chhattisgarh where two Maoists were killed in Bijapur encounter.
In a fierce gunfight that erupted in the forests of Bijapur district, Bastar division, Chhattisgarh on Thursday morning, two Maoists lost their lives whilst a District Reserve Guards personnel was killed in action.
The security forces are in the process of retrieving the fallen jawan's remains. According to Bastar police, the confrontation continues in the forested areas along the Bijapur-Dantewada border.
The incident began when Maoists launched an unprovoked attack on a joint security team conducting anti-Naxal operations in Bijapur's Gangaloor region. The forces responded to the attack, leading to an ongoing exchange of fire since 7 am.
Police officials confirmed the recovery of two Maoist bodies along with weapons and explosives from the encounter site.
According to reliable sources, security forces have surrounded a group of high-ranking Maoist operatives in the forest, with the possibility of additional casualty reports expected later in the day.
