Two games into the 2025 MLB season, fan interference has already become a major talking point. While Shohei Ohtani’s debated home run grabbed the headlines, another fan-related moment drew plenty of attention during Game 2 of the Tokyo Series. This time, it involved former NFL quarterback Rodney Peete making a slick grab that left Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy visibly annoyed.

Rodney Peete’s quick hands leave Muncy frustrated

In the sixth, Ian Happ of the Chicago Cubs fouled a ball into the shallow stands along the third-base line. It was a moment to remember Peete's athletic prowess. He spent 15 years playing in the National Football League before being drafted out of high school by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 30th round of the 1984 MLB draft.

Muncy sprinted over, reaching into the crowd to make the catch. Just as he stretched out, Peete coolly snatched the ball with his mitt, denying Muncy the out. With a playful grin, Peete casually tucked the ball behind his back, locking eyes with Muncy, who was clearly frustrated.
Unlike Ohtani’s controversial homer, Peete’s snag was entirely legal. Since the ball was already out of play, it did not count as fan interference. Despite Muncy’s annoyance, Peete was within his rights to make the grab.

Rodney Peete’s catch had a purpose and NFL flashbacks

Rodney Peete’s slick move was more than just a flashy grab. According to his wife, Holly Peete, the ball was heading straight for her. In an Instagram post, she revealed that her husband’s quick reflexes may have saved her from being hit. She even apologized to Muncy for the accidental foul-ball theft.

Though he chose football, his smooth catch hinted at the baseball skills he once had.
The Dodgers went on to win the game 6-3, sweeping the Tokyo Series and starting the season 2-0. With the teams now heading back to the U.S. for domestic Opening Day on March 27, Peete’s grab provided one of the series' most memorable highlights. Though it had no impact on the game, it gave fans a fun and unexpected baseball moment.
