The match was played on the same pitch where Mumbai Indians had previously bowled out Kolkata Knight Riders for 116. After choosing to bowl first, the hosts effectively utilized the helpful conditions.
In the chase, Impact Substitute Rohit Sharma provided an early spark with three sixes, including two off Mohammed Shami and one off Pat Cummins, before falling to a low full-toss from Cummins.

Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks both survived close calls during their innings. Jacks was dropped by Travis Head, while Rickelton got a reprieve when a catch by Cummins was ruled invalid due to keeper Heinrich Klaasen's gloves being in front of the stumps.
Rickelton went on to score 31 off 23 balls, including three consecutive boundaries against Ehsan Malinga, before being caught by Head off Harshal Patel's bowling.
