Meri Bhavya Life's Prisha Dhatwalia reveals how her personal journey shapes her inspiring portrayal; says 'I know what it’s like to be judged by your weight...'
For news reporter turned actor Prisha Dhatwalia, ‘Meri Bhavya Life’ is not just a show - it’s a reflection of her own scars, strength, and story woven into every frame. It flips the script with a protagonist who refuses to be defined by her size in a society where a woman’s achievements are often overshadowed by superficial standards. The coming-of-age drama follows Bhavya, a talented architect played by Prisha Dhatwalia, who faces repeated marriage rejections and gets undermined at work due to the prejudice people harbour against her as a plump girl.
Opposite her is the shallow Rishank (Karan Vohra), a fitness freak who mocks her appearance, embodying society’s harsh judgment. With its thought-provoking take on body positivity, the show is earning love and strong ratings, becoming a voice for countless women. Prisha brings raw authenticity to the role by drawing from her own life, refusing to shrink herself - literally or metaphorically for anyone else’s comfort. She opens up about the sting of being overlooked, judged, and being told she’d be “so much better if she lost weight”.
Prisha Dhatwalia, playing the role of Bhavya in ‘Meri Bhavya Life’, says, "The moment I heard Bhavya’s storyline, I was instantly drawn to it because Bhavya’s story felt like my own in so many ways. I know what it’s like to be judged by your weight or appearance before anyone cares to see your talent or your heart. When I started out as a content creator, I faced the same kind of scrutiny. Everyone had an opinion about how I looked but their words only made me believe in myself more fiercely. Just like Bhavya, I've had moments where I was underestimated, but I've also been lucky to have parents who stood by me, reminding me that my dreams matter more than anyone’s narrow standards. Bhavya isn’t just a character to me - she represents every person who’s ever been told they’re ‘not enough’ because of how they look. Through her, I’m even more inspired to take up space unapologetically, to be kinder to myself, and to celebrate what I bring to the table beyond appearances. Being part of this show will always be one of the most meaningful chapters of my life.”
In the current storyline, Bhavya is forced to work alongside Rishank at the gym, where his hostility is relentless. But his cruelty doesn't stop at cold shoulders and sharp remarks, rather it explodes into public humiliation when Rishank creates a viral meme, weaponizing her weight for the world’s ridicule. Just as Bhavya hopes for love with a new rishta, daring to believe that life might finally offer her a chance at happiness beyond prejudice, Rishank crosses every line- firing her, ripping away her dignity and livelihood in one ruthless stroke. Will this injustice fuel a powerful comeback that challenges the very standards that seek to confine her?
