Rajinikanth's investigative thriller 'Vettaiyan' which also stars
Amitabh Bachchan had a pan-India release as it hit the theatres on October 10. The movie secured massive numbers at the box office over the weekend as the weekdays arrived and they took a slight fall.
On its first Tuesday, the movie recorded its lowest earnings since its release as it collected over an estimated Rs 4.25 crore, according to a Sacnilk report. Bring a total earning to an estimated Rs 114.60 crore in India.
Vettaiyan Movie ReviewThe film, directed by TJ Gnanavel, opened to impressive numbers, grossing Rs 31.7 crore on its first day. Over the opening weekend, it maintained strong earnings with Rs 24 crore on Friday, Rs 26.75 crore on Saturday, and Rs 22.3 crore on Sunday. By the end of the first weekend, 'Vettaiyan' had amassed a total of approximately Rs 110 crore in India.
The film's occupancy rates reflected this drop as well. On Tuesday, October 15, the Tamil version had an overall occupancy of 18.34%, with morning shows at 13.95%, afternoon shows at 18.33%, evening shows at 20.10%, and night shows at 20.98%. The Telugu version saw an occupancy of 16.04%, while the Hindi version lagged behind at 8.97%.
'Vettaiyan' tells the story of a government school teacher who uncovers a drug trade and reports it to the police, leading to an investigation by a dedicated officer known for his unconventional methods. As the investigation unfolds, hidden truths about the crime world are revealed.
The opened up with mixed reviews, the enjoyed praised the performance by the 'Jailer' star but felt the storyline and the film's pacing not to able to touch the mark. One of the interesting facts about the film is that it is the reunion of the mega stars of Kollywood and Bollywood, Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan after when they last appeared together in the 1991 action-drama 'Hum'. Despite some intial struggles at the box office the film might pick up the pace once again during the weekends.
The movie also has some star-studded names in the cast including
Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Dushara Vijayan, and
Ritika Singh in key roles.
The movie is said to be made on a budget of Rs 160 crore.
