40 evacuated as fire breaks out at hospital in Delhi's Uttam Nagar

NEW DELHI: A fire broke out at a hospital in south-west Delhi's Uttam Nagar on Tuesday. Another fire was reported at a coaching centre in east Delhi's Preet Vihar. In both cases, patients and students were evacuated, and no one was injured.
Around 8 pm, a fire broke out on the third floor of the hospital in Uttam Nagar. Around 40 patients and staff were evacuated before the fire could spread.The fire was reported from the record room, which was located next to the dental treatment room, where there was no patient. "Around 10 fire tenders, along with 60 firefighters, rushed to the spot," a fire official said."The facility spanned three floors, each serving a specific function. The second floor had accommodation for six nurses. On the ground floor, a fully functional chemist's shop operated. The first floor contained various offices as well as outpatient department (OPD) rooms, where consultations and treatments were conducted," a police source said.At the time of the incident, approximately 15 to 20 patients and 20 hospital staff members were in the building. Everyone was promptly evacuated.
"No casualties or injuries were reported during the evacuation," said additional deputy commissioner of police (Dwarka) Nishant Gupta.Visuals of the incident showed huge flames leaping out of the building as people screamed. The area appeared to be congested.In another video, firefighters were seen dousing the flames.Another fire broke out at a coaching centre in Preet Vihar on Tuesday afternoon, causing panic among students. A fire official said that the force learned that around 10 people, including students, were evacuated safely before the fire department's rescue team arrived. Upon receiving the news, four fire tenders were dispatched to the scene along with police. Firefighters battled the blaze for two hours before bringing it under control.No casualties were reported.The fire department said it received a call around 12.45pm about a blaze in the coaching centre near the Preet Vihar metro station. The fire was confined to the first floor of the four-storey building. Smoke spread to the second floor. "The reason behind the blaze is being investigated," a fire official said.
