HYDERABAD: A group of right-wing outfit members vandalised the
Shamshabad branch of
Karachi Bakery, demanding that the name of the brand be changed. While the incident occurred on Saturday, it came to light on Sunday.
A viral video of the incident shows a group of people outside the store, shouting slogans and demanding the removal of the word ‘Karachi' from the bakery's name. They draped a black cloth across the display board of the brand, and later vandalised the board with sticks.
The incident took place in the corridor, and the vandalism did not spill over inside the store. While police were present at the scene, they did not forcefully intervene and try to dissuade the protesters. The police managed to disperse the crowd later and took them away from the store.
However, RGIA police told TOI that they did not register any case as the store management chose not to lodge a complaint. Instead, they requested the police to ensure such incidents did not recur.
Later in the day, however, police registered a case on the charge of wrongful restraint.Protests over the brand name started in Vizag, where a group of people staged a demonstration in the aftermath of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam demanding that the bakery chain drop ‘Karachi' from its name.
